The Girls on the Run 5k is presented by Eaton

The Greater Kalamazoo Girls on the Run celebratory 5k is the culmination of 10 weeks of training for nearly 2,000 3rd-5th grade girls and is open to the public.

4:00 Community Runner Registration & Packet Pickup

5:30 Girls and coaches will begin gathering at designated team signs on the field of Waldo Stadium. Friends, families and spectators are encouraged to find their place in the stands or along the course to cheer on the girls.

6:00 Welcome and Introductions

Registration Information

Girls on the Run participants are already registered for the 5k.

  • Register online until Monday, May 22.  You may register at packet pick-up on Tuesday, May 23 or the day of the 5k at Waldo Stadium. 
  • All ages are welcome to participate as registered community runners. 
  • T-shirts are only guaranteed to the first 1,300 registered community participants. 
  • Due to the AstroTurf surface and safety reasons inside Waldo Stadium, no strollers, bicycles or pets are allowed on the field or on the course.

Online registration requires debit or credit card payment. If you would like to mail or drop off a registration & payment, click here for a paper registration form.

  • Early Bird Rate: $25 per person if registered by Tuesday, May 23 
  • Event Day: $30 per person for on-site registration Thursday, May 25
  • Family Discount: We want this event to be affordable for the whole family. You can register 3 or more members of your immediate family for only $60. This discount only applies to parents/guardians and their children (same household). All 3 or more registrations must be submitted together. Girls on the Run participants are already registered and should not be included in the family discount.

GOTR Alumnae Rate: $15

Are you a former Girls on the Run program participant? We'd love to see you again! Register for the GOTR 5k and receive a special color shirt for being a part of GOTR when you were in 3rd, 4th or 5th grade.  Please note, there is a separate registration form for Alumnae. Alumnae registration is already discounted and cannot be combined with the Family Discount.

Packet Pick-Up

Packet pick-up will take place on Tuesday, May 23 from 10:00 am - 7:00 pm at the Girls on the Run office at the Non-Profit Campus located at 3901 Emerald Drive, Suite E, Kalamazoo, MI 49001 (off Cork Street between Sprinkle and Portage Roads)

Race packets may also be picked up at Waldo Stadium on the day of the event from 4 - 6 pm. 

Course Information

As part of our effort to provide the safest possible course for our girls, we ask that NO STROLLERS be brought onto field or used on the course. Dogs and bicycles are also not allowed on the football field or 5k course.

Weather/Emergency Policy

Preparing for the 5k

Here are some tips we’d ask you to relay to your participant before arriving at the  5k.

  • Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing
  • Use sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 15 or more
  • Drink plenty of water the day prior to and the day of the 5k
  • Run/walk at a comfortable pace

Safety First

The safety of our girls and all participants at the Girls on the Run 5k always is our first priority. We have a thorough safety plan in place for the event. A detailed map will be posted closer to the event which will provide a good snapshot of where our designated safety marshals, first aid volunteers and water/aid stations will be positioned along the 3.1 miles. Girls on the Run volunteers will line the course and our volunteer coaches are all First Aid and CPR certified and will participate in the run/walk alongside the girls.


TRAFFIC ADVISORY DUE TO CLOSURES: Please be aware that traffic will be rerouted due to our event course for the 5k to ensure the safety of our participants. PLAN AHEAD! As we get closer to the event date you may download or view a full list and details of the closures.

Parking is available in all WMU parking lots surrounding Waldo Stadium, including the lot in front of the WMU Student Recreation Center with the following exceptions:

  • Lot #7 is only for handicapped parking and you must arrive before 6pm and plan to stay until the last girl finishes the 5k which is around 8pm because the lot is part of the course.
  • Lot #10 is reserved for for Girls on the Run volunteers only.
  • Lot #6 & Lot #9 are closed for event activities.

Directions to Waldo Stadium: Please plan accordingly for construction related delays and rush hour traffic.

  • Directions from I-94: At Exit #74, turn north onto US-131, go 2.7 miles, then follow directions from US-131.

  • Directions from US-131: At Exit #36, turn East onto Stadium Drive, go 2.2 miles.  Waldo Stadium is accessible from Stadium Drive and Oakland Drive.

Sign-up to volunteer at the 5k event. We need a lot of volunteers for this exciting event! There are many opportunities available leading up to and on the day of the event. Individuals and groups are invited to be a part of our volunteer team!

Payment Options for 5k Day

Although cash and check payments are preferred for day of registration and merchandise sales, we will be able to process credit and debit card payments (the concession stand will still most likely only be able to accept cash payments).
